Case Studies
Taxonomy Development
Miranda was involved in two recent projects for a water and wastewater utility company. There was a growing requirement within the organisation to improve the management of their information assets, particularly their increasing volumes of digital assets. They also had a strategic objective to make information usable and accessible for staff. Miranda initially conducted a readiness assessment to look at what needed to be in place for the implementation of an electronic document and records management system.
This was followed by an enterprise-wide taxonomy development project alongside the development of a lifecycle framework for records and documents, and a metadata schema for the electronic document and records management solution they intended to purchase.
Information Management - Building Sector (Australia)
A large Australian organisation in the building / manufacturing sector were looking to improve their management of knowledge and information. One part of the project involved the development of Microsoft Sharepoint as an information repository, and Miranda was part of a team employed to configure and implement this technology.
Miranda's role in the project involved the development of a taxonomy, metadata schema, as well as training and communications. Miranda's contract was extended by three months to cover managing the rollout of the new solution to the pilot site.
Information Management - Government Agency (New Zealand)
A recent project was for a New Zealand government agency with a strong quality-driven focus. Records and information management was recognised as an integral part of their operations that needed some improvement to underpin their quality initiatives.
Strategic Information Solutions was engaged to develop an information management strategy that would assist the agency to improve the way they managed their information, support their quality programmes, accountability, compliance and risk management functions.
The project involved stakeholder engagement at all levels of the organisation to determine the "as is" situation, a gap analysis, development of a vision and scope for information management, the development of a strategy and a high-level roadmap of activities for achieving the strategy. A set of information management principles was developed to provide a base foundation for communications, training and governance activities.
Knowledge Management - Government Agency (New Zealand)
A recent engagement involved a Knowledge Audit for a New Zealand government agency.
The audit involved identifying core business processes which were then used in a series of workshops to identify key roles, information sets (tacit and explicit) and issues and concerns. Other interviews and surveys were also used in the information gathering phase of the project.
The objective of the audit was to identify the current state of knowledge and information management within the organisation, as a basis for moving forward into a future state analysis, gap analysis, and the development of a knowledge strategy and roadmap for future activities.
